The help [AEMRI] provided last year on the Directed Assessment we performed to improve the Control of Switchyard Drawings led to improvements in that document control process. As you are aware, document problems, and switching errors as a result of those problems, could cause significant concern for grid stability. With the improvements that resulted from the Directed Assessment, we have better secured the electric power supply to and from our nuclear plant, and we have provided a more stable electric power grid. The efforts AEMRI personnel have expended in support of our Corrective Action Program these past two years are also appreciated. The assistance AEMRI provided for us in 2001 and 2002 with our Corrective Action Program Self-Assessments led to improvement initiatives focused on key elements of the program. The assistance you provided in preparation for the Emergency Preparedness Program Inspection conducted by our regulators enabled us to self-identify and improve areas of weakness before the inspection. Our partnerships with AEMRI for improvement in the Corrective Action Program enabled us not only to conduct better event analysis, but we were also able to better prepare our employees to conduct Apparent Cause Evaluations and Root Cause Evaluations through the use of the training and in-field mentoring you provided. This standardization support has simplified our process providing better information for trending use among our facilities, and has reduced administrative time and effort (direct costs) in program implementation and process training.
